We’re excited to introduce one of our first k6 champions, John Hill, and put him in the spotlight. I first met John in 2020 when he spoke at a Cypress UK meetup I used to co-organize. Since then, John has been speaking at other meetups and conferences, such as StarEast 2022, where he did a keynote about automated front-end performance testing.
As a k6 champion, John will be helping us spread the word about k6 and share recommended practices related to performance testing. Apart from being a k6 champion, John is also a Playwright ambassador, which shows his love for open-source products!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I work at the NASA Ames Facility as a Web UI Test Engineer working specifically on the VIPER Mission.
What do you do outside of work?
Videogames and being a dad. As my daughter gets older, there's more overlap :)
What made you decide to become a k6 Champion?
I have always been a champion for Open Source and Developer Enablement. k6 was always easy to "champion" in organizations because of its OSS offering and its ease as a developer. Now I get to do it outside of my organization.
How are you currently helping the k6 community?
I help the k6 community by giving talks, answering questions on slack and updating issues in the community.
What do you love about k6?
I love how easily it integrates with modern and legacy tooling. The documentation is enough to get anyone going within an hour.
What's your favorite k6 feature?
xk6-browser has changed my approach to automated performance testing. Now I can test real user flows using the same load testing tool to generate multiple users. All in the same test!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a k6 Champion?
Show it to other folks in your internal organization and become the SME.
