Since the launch of k6 Champions program, we have been getting a lot of applications, and one of them was from Sahani Perera. Sahani has been advocating for k6 through various meetups and conferences, and has also experimented a bit with xk6-disruptor, our k6 extension for fault injection testing. As our newest champion, Sahani will continue her advocacies in various formats and work closely with us to help improve xk6-disruptor.
Now, let’s get to know her a bit more!
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Sahani Perera, and I live in Sri Lanka. I am enthusiastic about exploring new tools and technologies. I like identifying and implementing automation solutions to testing and other tasks to make them simple and effective. Currently, I work at Sysco LABS as a Senior Quality Engineer specializing in performance testing.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge within the tech community and learning new knowledge from other experts in the field.
What do you do outside of work?
I like spending my time outside work reading, watching Netflix, and listening to music. I love to travel with my family and see, taste, and try new things. Capturing beautiful pictures is something I also never missed to do whenever I make new memories.
What made you decide to become a k6 Champion?
When I started to use k6, I realized k6 is one of the best performance testing tools with many capabilities. I wanted to learn more about it and still continuously explore new areas.
I am happy to share the knowledge I gained throughout this time with the community. Exchanging knowledge will enable us to use k6 tool more effectively and helps to grow the k6 community.
How are you currently helping the k6 community?
I have shared my knowledge on k6 in conferences and meet-ups such as,
- Colombo Test Automation Conference 2023 conducted by SLASSCOM on how the k6 tool is used in Automated Process for Continuous Performance Testing
- Perfup #5 on Leveraging k6 for Collaborative Performance Engineering Culture
What do you love about k6?
There are many things I love about k6 such as:
- How quickly k6 can be learned and how easy it is to use k6.
- The k6 documentation. It is simple and clear, and anyone can start using k6 without any hassle with this superb documentation.
- The ability of k6 scripts to be customized as per our need and use the JavaScript capabilities to make the scripts more effective.
- The constantly growing nature in k6. k6 has evolved a lot, adding many extensions making it possible to use k6 tool in many aspects.
- Support is provided by k6 and also the strong and supportive k6 community.
What’s your most favorite k6 feature?
Among the many great features in k6, my favorite feature is thresholds. With that, we can easily define pass/fail criteria for performance tests. This feature is a great support when automating performance tests.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a k6 Champion?
If you love k6, don’t hesitate to share your knowledge. Exchanging knowledge is a great way to learn while you share your expertise. It will also help to grow the k6 community. This is a great program, and after all, it is a great opportunity to be a part of this bigger k6 family. 💜
